Legally Blind

Dearest Lydia had quite the accident last Thursday.  She and her class peers were playing a game of volleyball after school when a volleyball came over the net, was hit by her friend in a strange and unusual way--backwards, not forward over the net--and then slammed smack dab into Lydia's wide open eye!

When I picked Miss Lydia top just moments later, she was in tears, excruciating pain, and ready to rush to a doctor's office.  Every single one of these characteristics in unlike Lydia.  She doesn't publicly cry, never complains about pain, and doesn't go to doctor's offices for the life of her.

Well, I guess there are always events that pull us from our comfort zones, and this was Miss Lydia's character building event as of late.

The urgent care was able to put this amazing dye into her eye to catch any tears she may have acquired, and to no surprise, she had many tears, including a rather large one on her pupil, and a massive one below her beautiful bright and shining baby blue eyes.  I guess we should call them abrasions.

The urgent care visit also gave us in"sight" to her vision...while her right eye is 20/20, her left eye--the injured one--was legally blind.  The doctor stopped moving up the lines on the vision chart because she just kept getting those big old letters wrong!

The weekend was tough.

No, the weekend was dreadful...
Who doesn't need a little "dreadful" in their routine though.  Can I get a "hell ya"?

Hell No.  In a complete straight face, numb heart kinda' way, I'll give ya a big, "Hell No!"

From the comfort of my lived in sage love seat, hiding countless crumbs from children of all ages beneath stained cushions, and under a cozy heated throw, I am giving you my, "HELL NO!"  I did not need another crazy weekend.  Nevertheless, I got it!

I spent Thursday night and Friday morning tending to her needs and running around for any OTC treatments that would help.  Several homeopathic eye drops, an eye patch, a velvet heated compress, and a heated eye mask brought absolutely no relief for the poor girl.  She resorted to sleeping the pain away, for as long as her sweet body would let her.  But still, she was a moaning nightmare!  Sorry Lydia, I know it was "worse than breaking an arm," quoted directly from you, but I have to document truth...you were a moaning nightmare!πŸ˜‰

It has been 4 full days since Lydia's accident.  Her eye looks little off, but it is no longer swollen and red.  However, she has some lingering vision problems that will likely resolve in time.  Either way, she has the inner vision of a determined and successful woman; nothing can hold this girl back.

 I love you Miss Lydia,

Crystal πŸ’œ Miss Crys πŸ’™ Mommy πŸ’—
